Rocka quickly became my favorite character in the movie. As I sat in the theater, I marveled at the inclusion of a Catholic ape in the storyline. Villains are pivotal to narratives like this, not only illustrating what we should oppose but also what we might become if we’re not careful.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is the latest installment in this beloved franchise, and it may be one of the most pro-religion mainstream Hollywood films I’ve seen in quite some time. Hi, I’m Mateo Rivera, the Cinematic Catholic. Today, amidst renovating my office, I offer you a new background while I share my thoughts on this new “Planet of the Apes” film.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Catholic Movie Review
This movie is the fourth installment in the series, following the recent trilogy centered around Caesar’s story. While it technically serves as a prequel series, it stands somewhat apart from the original films, offering a unique timeline.
In this installment, we meet Noah, the new protagonist, who leads a simple life until tragedy strikes his community. What follows is a journey filled with new characters and challenges, including encounters with the formidable Proximus Caesar.
What surprised and delighted me most about this film was its approach to religious themes. Through Raqqa, a member of Caesar’s order, we encounter a poignant reflection on the distortion of teachings and the importance of understanding true principles. Raqqa’s character resonated deeply with me, reminiscent of the steadfastness and authenticity often associated with the Catholic Church.
Moreover, the movie’s exploration of power, manipulation, and the distortion of truth felt remarkably relevant. Proximus Caesar’s misuse of Caesar’s teachings serves as a stark reminder of how easily good intentions can be corrupted.
As Catholics, we are called to combat such distortions and spread the truth with love. Just as Noah questions the laws that contradict his conscience, we must discern between what is lawful and what is morally right.
In essence, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” offers a profound reflection on spirituality, morality, and the battle against falsehoods. Its themes resonate deeply and invite viewers to contemplate the nature of truth and goodness.
In conclusion, this film is a technological marvel, transporting audiences to a visually stunning world. While it contains moments of violence and mild language, it offers a compelling and thought-provoking experience suitable for mature audiences.
Catholic Rating: 8/10
For its entertainment value and profound themes, I give this movie an 8.5 out of 10. And from a Catholic perspective, it earns an eight out of 10 for its poignant reflections and spiritual parallels.
