Your Lord and Savior is Now the Size of a Head of Cabbage!
As the second trimester comes to an end, the Baby Jesus is growing rapidly, building muscle from all His movement, and developing fat that will make Him extra cuddly when He is born.
The Baby Jesus is also developing new and exciting senses. He is now able to open his eyelids and see within the womb. While His hearing is not yet perfect, He is beginning to be able to hear sounds and recognize voices. Imagine the Baby Jesus hearing and being calmed by His Blessed Mother’s voice as she sings songs through her daily life. Imagine His excitement within the womb upon hearing St. Joseph’s voice as he softly speaks to Him within Mary’s burgeoning belly. At this point, Baby Jesus may also be able to taste the flavor of the food Mary eats from the amniotic fluid and may even get the hiccups if she eats something spicy.
What to expect this month:
- A growing anticipation, and perhaps even a deep longing, to meet Jesus.
- An increasing appreciation for our Lord, Who demonstrated the ultimate act of humility by taking human form in its most vulnerable state.
Things to do this month to prepare for His birth:
- Consider singing a song to Jesus. Whether in the shower or before the Blessed Sacrament, with a beautiful voice or a terrible voice, sing a song to Him to show Him your love. Even though He is only now able to hear as a small baby within Mary’s womb, He is always listening.
- As you think about Baby Jesus experiencing his first tastes within Mary’s womb, consider fasting from something you enjoy eating once a week during the coming month and offer the sacrifice for the unborn.
