“Man should tremble, the world should vibrate, all heaven should be deeply moved when the Son of God appears on the altar in the hands of the priest.”

It all begins with Christ.
Christ offered His life for us at the Last Supper when He said “This is My Body, this is My Blood (Luke 22:19-20) and fulfilled that offering with His Sacrifice on the Cross.
Then, Christ Ascended into Heaven with the wounds from His Sacrifice still on His Body (Luke 24:40, John 20:27).
He also continues to stand as though slain in Heaven (Rev 5:6), taking the posture He was in while on the Cross.
The saints say this means Christ is eternally showing the Father His one Sacrifice:
“…the wounds received for us, He preferred to take them to heaven…to show God the Father the price of our liberation.” – St. Ambrose
“For although He be set on the Father’s right hand, yet in the same flesh which He took from the Virgin, he carries on the mystery of propitiation…” – Pope St. Leo the Great
By showing His one Sacrifice to the Father, Christ perfectly Adores, Appeases, Thanks and Petitions the Father on our behalf. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1361, 1367)
As soon as the priest says “This is My Body/Blood”, Christ is made present on the altar with the wounds and posture of His one Sacrifice (Mediator Dei § 92, Pius XII).
We unite our personal sacrifices to Christ’s Sacrifice, so that we, the Body, can join Christ, the Head, in Adoring, Appeasing, Thanking and Petitioning the Father (CCC, 1368).
“Pray brethren, that my sacrifice AND YOURS may be acceptable to God the Father Almighty.”
– Mass in the Roman Rite
Joining our sacrifices to Christ’s, in worship of the Father, is the main thing that should happen at Mass.
(Mediator Dei § 98)
We must become “living sacrifices” (Rom 12:1) and practice mortifications every day, so we can offer them to God at Mass.
(Mediator Dei § 81, 99)
“Re-crucifying Christ” or “offering another sacrifice” do NOT happen during the Mass.
What DOES happen is we are joined to Christ, who is showing His One Sacrifice to the Father, so that Body and Head are united in adoring, appeasing, thanking and petitioning the Father.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
