5 Ways To Make Ordinary Time Less Ordinary

by Faith & Life, Liturgical Seasons

Ordinary Time doesn’t have to be so ordinary. It can be just as prayerful, meaningful, and productive as any of the liturgical times of the church year. The difference is that we have a lot more time to plan and accomplish things.

Where do you start? Think about the things you wanted to accomplish during Lent. Yeah, I thought so. We all have good intentions, but then life happens, and we are unable to keep the commitments we so enthusiastically made for Lent.

5 Ways to Make Ordinary Time Less Ordinary

  1. Remember those 40 bags for the 40 days of Lent? You can still do that. Maybe gathering a bag a day of stuff to donate was too much. How about during Ordinary Time you make it a bag a week or even a bag a month? Doable right?
  2. Did you make it to Eucharistic Adoration during Lent? You can still do that. Break up your weekday and sit before the Lord with your intentions and those of others. Make a list if it is more helpful. If you are working go during your lunch break or even before or after work. You can go once a week or once a month.
  3. Did you plan on keeping a journal during Lent? Did you get sidetracked? Ordinary Time is the perfect time to restart journaling. If you already have a journal just start with that one, but if you didn’t even purchase a journal get something that’s special. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but having something attractive might just draw you in. A nice pen helps, too!
  4. Was your prayer life a mess during Lent? Now you have the time to sort it out, organize it or, just relax. Spend your prayer time more simply and let the Holy Spirit guide you.
  5. Did you miss doing The Stations of the Cross during Lent? Did you know you can do Stations at any time? If going to Stations was one of the goals you didn’t quite achieve during Lent, plan on doing them by yourself. There are so many ways to do this! You can pray them at home using a rosary or even a YouTube video. If being in church is better for you, by all means, go!

Now that you have some suggestions, get out there and make your Ordinary Time much less ordinary!
