A common misconception about Catholicism is that we worship statues. If someone asks you, “Why do you worship statues?” here’s how you can respond with clarity and charity.

Do Catholics Worship Statues?

“Catholics don’t worship statues. We use them to remind us of those who lead us to Christ.”

Why Do Catholics Use Statues?

The purpose of religious images and statues is to lift our minds and hearts to God. Sacred art has played a significant role in the Church for centuries, helping the faithful meditate on Christ’s life, the virtues of the saints, and the mysteries of our faith.

Just as God commanded Moses to craft the Ark of the Covenant with angelic images (Exodus 25:18-22), and as Solomon adorned the Temple with sacred figures (1 Kings 6:23-29), the Church continues to use beauty to draw us into deeper worship of the One True God.
