  1. He lived during a time of great schism within the Church – 2 bishops claimed the papacy when he lived so he was a strong priest during a very tumultuous period of time for the Church.  
  2. He is the patron saint of builders – he is known as the patron of builders due to his great work in building up the church in a time of division and confusion. 
  3. He was nicknamed the “Angel of the Apocalypse” – he earned this nickname because he preached extensively and passionately on the end of the world and the final judgement.  
  4. The Holy Spirit spoke through him – like the apostles on Pentecost, he preached in his native language but everyone listening understood him as though he were speaking in their own language.    
  5. Lived a very humble life – he always abstained from meat, slept only on the floor, accepted no donations for himself, and consumed only bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays.
