The Last Supper: Fulfillment Of The Prefigurements

Listen now to the final Passover tale.

Which each that have come before

Led to purest, unblemished Male

Opening Heaven’s door

All these things done of old

Ev’ry action and sacred word

Have a story, present, they’ve foretold

Hear it, and ponder all you’ve heard

First, by the Baptist did Christ receive

Waters of the Jordan, outpoured

Reserved for the ones who believe

And done, as our example, to our Lord

Later, two witnessed transfigured Face, & lo!

They heard a Voice above them say

Hic est Filius Meus dilectus in quo

Mihi bene complacui: Ipsum audite.

Then afore Our Lord began

To travel and to spread

Faith, and minister to sinful man

He was tempted by angel of dark’n’dread

In the desert, He spent time

Those forty days and nights

Darkness, anything but sublime

But naught lessened the Holy Light

The wilderness did, our Lord, surround

Tired, isolated, hungry, but strong

Tempted by sin, He stood God’s ground

Didn’t cave to evil’s wrong

The God-Man’s hunger was most dire

So Satan tempted Him to turn from stone

Bread to satisfy His natural desire

But one doesn’t live on bread alone

Focus on God’s will and holy call

Though what you seek be nat’ral and real

Seek Him, and ye shall not fall

Despite how earth’s goods make you feel

Tempted then to cast Himself ‘pon th’stone

And let angels cater, if He trust

To let God save Him while atop His throne

If He believe Him merciful and just

Tempt not the Lord, your God

Lest night befall your day

Watch with which words you trod

Careful of all you do and say

Then Satan said to Thee

Well, perhaps this one thing You’d do?

Just bow down and worship me

And all these nations I’ll give to You!

He’d give to Christ to command

To rule, guard, guide, and love

All governed by Jesus’ hand

And Power up Above

Quick though it would have been

To have all these things easily

‘Tis not beyond Christ’s ken

To, the devil’s plot, twisted see

With these examples, so He leads

Going against evil’s grain

Swift, sacrifice and so sin bleeds

Earth’s sorrows better than greatest pain

So, then, Our Lord, after these days

Taught and preached in the lands

Showing us His perfect ways

Til by death our lives were in His Hands

Then came and end to those 3 years

Of doing His Father’s will

Now our Good Shepherd’s time nears

Now, His word, He shall fulfill

When the Passover would soon arrive

He sent two of His ahead

To find a place where He’d contrive

Himself from wine and bread

Soon found they the upper room

Just as Christ had spoken

Where before meeting impending doom

He’d hand Himself over, Bread broken

He and His apostles soon reclined

But first He washed their feet

To ordain them before they dined

So the sacrifice they could repeat

Now as priests, they shared in Him

Prepared were they to partake

As Christ’s time grew ever dim

His love did apparent make

Recalling first, his promise made

To, from sin’s slavery, deliver

Caused by eating fruit God forbade

Taking arrow shot from devil’s quiver

This first cup does commemorate

God releasing us from Egyptian Hell

And freedom we now appreciate

With second cup’s joy, we drink and tell

These bitter herbs we now eat

Maror, lettuce, and chicory

Represent what He’ll soon defeat

Bondage to sin’s slavery

Now takes Christ unleavened bread

He, the true unblemished Lamb

With the holy words He then said

He changed it to the great I AM

To be given after His death

Til the end of time

When earth  breathes its final breath

Passing to eternity sublime

Now drink we cup number three

Symbol of the lamb’s blood spilled

Remember God’s promise to set us free

Reason this cup be filled

This cup be like none before

For with the Sacred words Christ spoke

Became Him, with us evermore

As did the Bread He broke

Then to the Garden did He retreat

Every step and thought in agony

To pray before sin’s defeat

“God’s will be this chalice in front of Me”

Soon approached in dark of night

Soldiers lead by blinded man

For Christ’s betrayer had no light

As no darkness can

“They take me out of malice

But in love, I give My Chalice.

They desire death and instead

Of fighting, I give supernat’ral Bread.

I die now once for all of you

For My love is ever true

By the example that I now show

My love for you, you’ll ever know.

That you partake in My love

Grow closer to dwelling with me Above

Eat of Me each day

And follow My loving way.

For My Body is the strength you need

To grow your budding mustard seed

Yet you seek happiness and daily spurn

Me as I, eager, await your return

I’m all you should ever seek

My heart is humble and soul is meek

Unite yourself daily, then, to Me

Receive My love and you shall see

The Eucharist, you will find

Shan’t leave worthy souls behind

My yoke is easy and burden light

Receive ye oft the Lamb sans blight.”

Then in front of Pilate did He stand

Pilate, lacking strength of mind

Innocent tho the Son of Man

Pilate washed his hands and left behind

He knew the Truth, but couldn’t meld

Faith with Truth ‘cause of fear

Though the Truth he sure beheld

So also pressure cameth near

Spineless, he caved to Pharisees’ demand

Handing over the Christ

Jesus fulfilled God’s command

With His loving sacrifice

Scourged, then crowned with thorns

Carried the wood and crucified

The New covenant soon was born

When ‘pon drinking final cup, He died

So ended the new Passover meal

Unblemished Lamb’s blood shed

All that was prefigured became then real

When over holy wood t’was spread

To share in His life, we read,

To eat and drink of dear Jesus

Every word and command we heed

‘Tis why we partake in the Eucharist

He remains with us til end of days

And bids us do the same

Remain with Him and do as He says

Do all in His Holy Name
