Catholic music fans should be prepared to love the sounds on Matt Maher’s newest album, “Echoes,” as well as the message behind the lyrics. This is Maher’s eighth full-length album, and he has previously won eight Grammys for his work.

“Echoes” speaks to the heart of human suffering with insight into finding hope, joy, and peace in the midst of our trials. Sadly, Matt Maher lost his own father after writing most of the songs for this album. His website tells us that, “In his own moment of loss, Maher found himself processing his grief from the truths and declarations in the new songs. ‘Jesus chose to respond to death by embracing it. By embracing it, He destroyed it. This record became, for me, my response to sin and suffering. I had to formulate my own echo. I had to decide if I was going to echo the message of the cross back to the world, or my own narrow view of suffering.’”

Before listening to this great new Catholic music, watch the trailer for the album in which Maher explains some of his thoughts behind “Echoes.”

Your Love Defends Me

Lyrics To “Your Love Defends Me”

You are my joy, You are my song
You are the well, the One I’m drawing from
You are my refuge, my whole life long
Where else would I go?
Surely my God is the strength of my soul
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
And when I feel like I’m all alone
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
Day after day, night after night
I will remember, You’re with me in this fight
Although the battle, it rages on
The war already won
I know the war is already won
Surely my God is the strength of my soul
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
And when I feel like I’m all alone
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
We sing Hallelujah
You’re my portion
My salvation
Hallelujah
Surely my God is the strength of my soul
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
And when I feel like I’m all alone
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
Surely my God is the strength of my soul
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
And when I feel like I’m all alone
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
We sing Hallelujah
You’re my portion
My salvation
Hallelujah
You’re my portion
My salvation
Hallelujah
You’re my portion
My salvation

Does The Bible Really Mention Unicorns?

Is The Catholic Mass Part Of The Bible?

When I ask myself where the Mass is in the Bible, my mind goes to Luke’s Gospel, Chapter 24. On Easter Sunday, three days after Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper, and before He appeared to the eleven, Jesus walked beside two disciples on the road to...
