Brenda Louis, a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy who was assigned to monitor a hospital floor after the tragic February 14th school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, is an example to all those who consider themselves to be faithful Christians.
After receiving a text message from her sister encouraging her to do so, Ms. Louis took it upon herself to pray for and with the victims of this tragedy. Once she received permission from his parents, she laid her hand upon Kyle Laman and had a conversation with God.
She told ABC News, “I just took a risk, and I asked the mom and the dad is it okay if I pray for Kyle and they were very ecstatic they were happy.”
“I just believe prayer is very powerful,” Ms. Louis said.
Do you believe in the power of prayer?
If we really believe this, we will be willing to take the risk necessary to offer our prayers for those we come into contact with every day. We need men and women that will intercede for those who are suffering and provide a hope in God for those who are hopeless.
We shouldn’t wait for times of tragedy to be risk-takers. Let’s commit to being proactive, praying for the eyes to see those hearts among us that need healing, and asking the Holy Spirit for the courage to step out in prayer for our neighbors.
