Who Is Worthy Of God’s Mercy?  | The Pope Francis Minute

by Catholic-Link.org YouTube, Holy Father, Meaning of Suffering, Pope Francis

“At times you may feel disappointed, discouraged, abandoned by all, but God does not forget his children, He never abandons them! […] Even in the midst of so many problems, even serious ones, let us not lose our hope in the infinite mercy of God and in His providence”. Source

Inspired by these words that Pope Francis shared with a group of inmates in Naples, today’s episode poses the question: who is worthy of God’s mercy?

How many of our brothers and sisters have forgotten that they are sons and daughters of a loving God? When they look in the mirror what do they discover? Is their face, their life one worthy of mercy? Do they see someone for whom God would die upon the cross? Remember the attitude of the older son, one of indifference, jealous, aloofness. How can we transmit Christ’s message with a gaze like this?

Our faith and our Holy Father encourages us to choose another path. In his recent Misericordia Vultus, he said: “Mercy is the very foundation of the Church’s life. All of her pastoral activity should be caught up in the tenderness she makes present to believers; nothing in her preaching and in her witness to the world can be lacking in mercy. The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate love” (MV, 10).

Finally, the key event that inspired today’s episode was precisely a beautiful gesture of mercy. Urged by Pope Francis to not stay at his desk but rather to be an active worker for the benefit of the poor, the Papal Archbishop Konrad Krajewski recently spearheaded a project of offering showers and barbershop facilities for the homeless of Rome.
