What Does It Mean to “Put on the Armor of God”?

by Faith & Life, Spiritual Warfare

This exceptional video is produced by Life Teen  and called “Armor of God.”

When we hear the word “spiritual combat”, what do we imagine? Angels fighting over our shoulders? Some mystic monk? Without necessarily rejecting those ideas, I think it’s worth applying the concept to our daily lives. Each day we have a decision: live for Christ or not live for Christ. “Demilitarized zones” are a fantasy.

The important thing here isn’t an attitude of “terror”. What we need to do is be vigilant, to realize that many messages and offers that the world makes to us are not neutral. The first step, then, is WAKING UP, being AWARE. The story of the battle to love God and love one’s self  begins with the story of Adam and Eve. We all have our own unique battles to fight. For Eve it was the Apple, for King David it was the pretty girl, for Peter it was the fear of being associated with a condemned prisoner and so on. Today, as the video shows, there are new manifestations of the same battle: indifference, divorce, abortion, pornography, the pressure at school and much more.

– Blessed Pope John Paul II
