6 Things You Can Do To Stand For Life Right Now

1. Pray

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Phillipians 4:6-7

You knew this one was coming! Of course, the answer to everything is PRAYER.   We must make our requests known to God.  The request to change the hearts and minds of our nation’s leaders and those who support abortion.   The request to bring healing to all those who have experienced the pain of abortion.  The request to save the lives of all unborn babies.  The request for the safety of those traveling to the March for Life.  The requests may be endless, but God will hear each one.  Lift up whatever aspects of this movement that are weighing heavy on your heart.   There are many resources available to help direct your prayers. Start here with the 9 Days For Life Novena that can be sent via text message or email.

2. Research And Read

For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. Ecclesiastes 7:12

Was a high school essay the last time you made an effort to learn more about the Pro-life movement and what the Catholic Church believes?  If you haven’t taken the time to stay up to date on the new issues that arise, set aside an hour today to read on stem cell research, contraception, euthanasia, and abortion.  This is not light reading and will require a quiet space as well as your full attention.  Education is a tool that empowers us to have the courage to speak out on our stance for life.  It is imperative that Catholics know at least a few reasons why we are pro-life.  Taking time to study these important concerns is a way of fasting from another activity that you enjoy doing in order to fit it into your schedule.  Here are a few of our recommendations:

3. Teach and Share

In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. Titus 2:7-8

We have a God-given responsibility to instruct others and lead them by our example.  There are several things we can do to teach those around us to be ProLife.

With your family or friends watch clips of The March For Life. Take time to discuss the importance of choosing life and acting on our passions.

Post a prolife Facebook status or send out a tweet in support of those marching. Several organizations have created their own tag for the march (#whywemarch, #iseetwo, #whywepray).  Social media is one of the most effective ways to reach people.  Pray about an article you could share, a video, a powerful image, or a prayer.  Anything meaningful that may grab people’s attention.  Catholic-Link.com has many wonderful resources available for you to share with your family and friends.

Get a sign for your yard, a bumper sticker, or even have your kids draw pictures to put up in your window supporting your views. Don’t be ashamed to show you stand for life.  A verse commonly used is from Jeremiah 1:5

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

Even small children can be introduced to the value of all life. Teach your children that life begins in the womb by showing them pictures of their own ultrasounds.  Talk about how God created them.  Encourage them to pray for any families you know that are expecting babies.

4. Donate

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Matthew 6:3

Notice that this verse does not say “IF  you give to the need“, it says “WHEN you give to the needy.” This implies that giving is not a choice, but an expectation of our Lord.   Both the unborn babies and courageous mothers who decide to choose life for their children are in need of our help.   Of course donations of money are always needed by crisis pregnancy centers and prolife groups, but you can also donate items (maternity and baby clothing, diapers, toys, and baby gear) and time volunteering.  Do some research and find out where and how you can help in your area.  We need to be willing to give of ourselves to help these women after they make the choice of life for their child.

5. Plan

Start preparing for 40 Days for Life.   The ministry began in 2007 and has spread rapidly.  Their efforts have saved over 18,003 babies, inspired 211 abortion workers to quit their jobs and closed 107 abortion centers.  If your is not one of the 559 cities  that currently takes part in this prayerful event for life, there is plenty of information on how to get it started. Plan ahead so you don’t miss out on this beautiful opportunity to share our faith and act on our love for life.

But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even His life to love us. So, the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love, that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts.Mother Theresa
